A lovely afternoon in Birmingham but sadly the low point of the season for us with a total entry across our 5 current classes of just TWELVE riders! We've been well down all year but this was the low point. Who knows why. However, away from the dark side it didn't spoil the meeting as those who did turn up gave it their best shot and provided plenty of entertaining racing.

First worthy mention of a few must go to our host Mark Winwood and his hired help - Brummies young star Ricky Johnson who refereed and swept up for us, and Coventry CSC's Dave Foster who did the tapes and some extra running about. Once again our Dynamic Duo (Fred Rothwell and Geoff Gamage) got the racing format sorted out and off we went.

Great to see Steve Paver make the long haul up to the Midlands as did Andy Yard who hasn't missed a meeting this year, a great effort from both. Thanks also to our newest full-time recruit Phil Vanner of Heckmondwike CS who only missed Round 1 at Wednesfield. Coventry's Amy Baynes also joined us today.

Fred led a tribute to the late, great Cycle Speedway legend that is Charles "Chic" Mackie.

On a happier note I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate New British Over 50 AND Over 60 Champion, Horspath's Richard Edge, on a superb achievement.

I think I'd be right in saying there was only one faller today, Lukasz Kaczmarek in Heat 8 just suffering from a momentary twist of his front wheel exiting the final bend after a stunning outside pass and coming down quite hard on the dust-covered, stick-dry surface, possibly hitting the outside concrete too. I commend myself for becoming Birmingham CSC's new First Aider (?). Well done Lukasz for bouncing back up and still looking fast in his other rides.

Now shut up TK...
